US Representative Mike Gallagher discusses the Israel-Gaza conflict and US support for Israel

The Israel-Gaza conflict continues to be a topic of concern and debate. US Representative Mike Gallagher, a Republican on the Intelligence and Armed Services Committee and House China Committee, shares his perspective on the situation and the role of the United States in supporting Israel.

Conditions on Israeli Military Aid

Senate Democrats are suggesting that there should be conditions placed on the Israeli military in order to receive aid. Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii stated, “We want to be assured they’re abiding by American values as they try to dismantle Hamas.” However, Representative Gallagher argues that Israel is already abiding by international law and going above and beyond to do so. He believes that this call for conditions is simply posturing influenced by pressure from the progressive left.

He further explains that a ceasefire, as suggested by some, would only benefit Hamas, a terrorist organization responsible for American bloodshed and hostage situations. Placing restrictions on Israel’s military force would only embolden terrorist groups in the region, invite further aggression, and prolong the conflict in Gaza. To Representative Gallagher, the path towards ending the conflict is clear: the release of all hostages and Hamas’s surrender.

Eliminating Hamas

When asked if Israel can eliminate Hamas, Representative Gallagher believes that it is possible with the full backing of the United States. He acknowledges that it will not be easy and that there will be casualties on both sides. However, he emphasizes the need to confront Hamas, which he describes as a genocidal death cult that must be destroyed.

He also suggests re-evaluating the approach to Qatar, a country that has helped Hamas use hostages as leverage. Representative Gallagher believes it is time to exert pressure in support of Israel and ensure they are not isolated internationally.

The Threat of AI and China

Shifting gears, the conversation turns to the world of artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in national security. Representative Gallagher mentions a troubling story from The New York Times about the ties between an AI giant, G42, and a large Chinese company. American spy agencies have warned about the security threats posed by this connection.

He highlights the importance of scrutinizing this issue, as open AI is seen by the Chinese as a valuable national security asset of America. He questions why the US would not allow a Chinese firm to invest in AI but allows them to invest in G42, whose CEO has a background that warrants deep scrutiny. Representative Gallagher believes it is crucial to use US influence to prevent closer ties between the UAE and China in order to protect national security.

Moving forward, addressing the challenges posed by AI and Chinese involvement will require the US to stay vigilant and proactive.
