Today in “Focus” from Tel Aviv, we have the honor of interviewing the former Ambassador to the United States and member of the Israel US House of Representatives. We discuss the ongoing situation with the hostage families and the actions of Hamas.
The Plight of the Hostage Families
It is heartbreaking to witness the suffering of the families in Israel. Every day, there are supposed releases of the hostages, but there is always uncertainty whether they will actually arrive in Israel. Hamas, a vicious and cynical terrorist organization, uses psychological terror against our people and the families of the hostages. The reunions may seem humane, but it is merely a show. In reality, our people are being tortured, starved, and subjected to horrific treatment.
There have been testimonies of children as young as 12 being beaten every day and forced to watch videos of massacres. The atrocities committed by Hamas are unimaginable. We are committed to rescuing as many hostages as possible, but our ultimate goal is to eradicate Hamas.
The Role of Other Palestinian Groups
While Hamas claims responsibility for everything happening in Gaza, there are other groups involved, such as Islamic Jihad. It is expected that Hamas would enforce their control and provide information about the hostages. The lack of visits from the Red Cross to our hostages is completely unacceptable and unheard of.
Potential Conditions on Aid to Israel
The progressive left of the Democratic Party in the United States is calling for conditions on how the United States supports Israel. This approach is misguided and dangerous. Israel has been a loyal ally, and the suffering we endure cannot be compared to any conditions placed on aid. Our fight against Hamas is similar to the fight against Al Qaeda, where no conditions were imposed. We appreciate the support of the American people who stand with us and pray for us.
