Several child hostages have been freed in the temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. More are expected to be released today. However, there has been a tragic turn of events concerning the youngest hostage taken by Hamas. Instead of handing over the 10-month-old boy, Kafir, to the Israelis, the terrorists gave him to a separate Palestinian terror group. This shocking news has left the family’s relatives reeling, calling it psychological torture.
Hamas is holding these child hostages as “trophies”. They are being held underground, deprived of sunlight. The ceasefire has been extended, but there is still no news about the family’s return. Every day counts for that baby.
The level of cruelty and inhumane behavior displayed by Hamas is not surprising. In this ceasefire agreement, they signed an agreement to release all women and children. However, there is still uncertainty about whether Kafir and his family will be returned. Kafir’s aunt, representing the family, is waiting hopelessly, trying to remain positive. She is not a politician or a military general, but a family member whose heart is broken.
It is important to focus on the plight of these innocent children. They are not with Hamas; they are with Islamic terrorists or gangs of people, as Ambassador Danny Danone described them. Hamas must be held accountable for any harm done to these children. The true end game of these terrorists is still unknown, and fear and uncertainty surround their fate.
The emotional journey of these families is unimaginable. The hope they feel when they hear about potential releases, only to have that hope shattered when they learn the children are being transferred to other hands. It is a constant rollercoaster of emotions.
The current administration’s conditional support of Israel is appalling. Placing conditions on aid to Israel only furthers the interests of Hamas and Iran, contributing to the global condemnation of Israel. It gives rise to misplaced condemnation when Israel responds to terrorist attacks. Israel has taken numerous precautions to minimize civilian deaths, demonstrating their commitment to protecting innocent lives.
The strength and resilience of the Jewish people in Israel is admirable. They remain strong despite the challenges they face. These children deserve to be with their families, and the world must not forget their plight.
